ON THE RECORD

“Still one of the best goalkeepers in Premiership….No doubt the first name on the team sheet….he remains an example to fellow goalies and youngsters alike” (PFA FACTFILE 1996/67)

“It is a 140 mile trip from his Llandudno home to the Bellefield training ground. Usually he is the first to arrive and the last to leave. In his 15 years at Everton, it has always been so.”

Each day he puts the treadmill through its paces, running up to 10 miles, lifting weights and crunching countless sit-ups. Not work holism, just dedication born or a realization that staying at the top requires hard work and lots of it.

No one at Everton epitomizes more the club motto of “Nothing but the best is Good Enough”. His goalkeeping manual was called “In Search of Perfection” and that remains his blinkered goal.

NOTHING BUT THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH.

“Neville is knowledgeable, well read. A perfectionist who has come up with some excellent ideas on how Welsh football should progress.

He comes to matches with documents typed out. Neville is well organised and has a bright, enquiring mind. When I first asked him to work with me, he replied by asking straight sway if it was a cosmetic exercise.

I don't think I've heard anyone in football use the work cosmetic before. He is clever and sharp. The biggest compliment I could pay him is that I've worked with a lot of people in football, and I would like to be his number two if he went into management.

(BOBBY GOULD – WELSH NATIONAL TEAM MANAGER)
