Profile

Former World Cup winner with Argentina in 1978 Ossie who was capped 42 times became a north London hero when joining Tottenham who he won 2 FA cup medals with, he sadly had to leave when the Falklands war started. He took up management at Swindon Town in 1989 and had spells at Newcastle United and West Brom before being handed the job he really wanted in June 1993 with Tottenham.

Despite a great start with wins at both Newcastle and Liverpool, the 1993-94 season turned sour with injuries to key players such as Gary Mabbutt, Teddy Sheringham and Darren Anderton as Tottenham hovered above the relegation zone before finally finishing 15th.

The next season promised so much, not least with the arrival of Jurgen Klinsmann and the 'famous five' attack-minded players. Sadly, that attacking football proved Ardiles' downfall as goals were shipped at the other end.

The final curtain came after a humiliating League Cup exit at Notts County and he was sacked in October 1994.

Ossie has managed various clubs since leaving Tottenham he now is manager of Toyko Verdy 69 in Japan. He travels back and for to the UK very regularly.
