Summary
Alex's career started off with his school team, the district side, both Surrey and London schoolboys. However, Alex often found himself on the bench with both the schoolboys teams, however, he persevered as all he wanted to do was play football.

He continued to play on both Saturdays and Sundays and later he played amateur football for local team Tooting & Mitcham. It was there that he made his way through the ranks, from the youth team to the first team.

It certainly didn't do him any harm, as, eventually, he ended up playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world: Manchester United.

He went on to make over 500 appearances for United and kept 175 clean sheets.

He even managed to hit the back of the net twice, not in frustration, but from the penalty spot in 1973.
